Hull
Built from 3/4″ Pensacola pitch pine planking laid on 2½” sq grown oak frames (7 off) placed at the stations. Some planking restoration in larch was performed at the stern in 2025. Minor frames are 13/8″ sq oak between each major frame and all the frames are tenoned into the keel some 8″ deep fastened right through. The keel is elm 13″ deep by 14″ wide effectively taking the place of hog and floors, and the garboards are tenoned half their full width into the top of it. The garboards in iroko have been replaced in 1985. A renovation of the garboard (in oak) was performed in 2025. The beam shelf is pine, 3½” x ¾” with a decorative double string along it. There is no stringer. The mast step was remade in 2004. The mizzen mast step was remade in 2025.
The deckbeams are 1½” by 1¾” pine and the cabin top 5/8″ fir, canvas covered. Along the deckbeams, the underside of the deckplanks and cabin top planks are planed matching decorative strings – just like a great yacht. The cabin sides and cockpit frame and details are ¾” teak.
